Hello Friend!
this is a blog about a show Mel Kadel and I (Travis Millard) did recently at the Richard Heller Gallery in Santa Monica, California. We had a split show together in 06, and since then Richard expanded into the space next door, so we each had a room to fill. Mel and I were snapping flicks in the week leading up to the opening. Here's what went on~~ -Travis Millard

Woke up Super Tuesday and kicked the day off with a punch-card, then hit the gallery.

This is Luke. Luke is a wizard. He hung both shows with spooky efficiency. He also plays in a music band called Bi-Polar Bear. You can find them on the popular Myspace website.

I pinned a group of drawings up, and it took me almost as long as it took Luke to hang both rooms. I was embarrassed. Face on my Case.

While i was busy bruising my thumb with the pins (should'a brought the thimble!), Luke handled Mel's room before i could take many pictures.

(elapsed time: 7 minutes, approx.)

Got back home, and broke out the Gocco to print some covers for a zine i was trying to get done before the show.

Mel was in the other room trying to get her new book together in time too.

Broke out of the house a little later and hit the city...

Got to see some old friends from Kansas, "Blood on the Wall" play at Spaceland. They're on tour with their 3rd record, "Liferz". It was pretty stellar.

My hungry parents from Kansas showed up at our door the next morning (hide the bongs!), so we got some breakfast at a greasy spoon down the road.

It was their first time in Los Angeles, so i figured we'd drive them around and show off some sights and sounds.

One of my favorite landmarks, the rotating "Happy Foot / Sad Foot Sign". Beloved for it's depiction of a VERY happy foot, and a VERY sad foot.

Danzig's house

By the end of the drive, they were pretty burnt out, and so were we. So we all went back to the cabin and had a breakdance tournament, but i don't have any pictures of it.

A bunch of other shit happened, but let's speed this along. Now we're at the opening, and this is a few selections from Mel's room... apologies for the photo quality...

Mel's Padre and Susan were in town all week long too, but sadly, we didn't get many photos. we were just hanging out, off the record.

My folks wanted a picture by the art too but had to prep a little.

Many thanks to everyone who came out to the show. It'll still be up til March 8th, so if you find yourself in the neighborhood, give it a gander.

We got those books together too. They're available at fudgefactorycomics.com if you're into it.

Let's wrap this up with a picture of Mel when she was 3 with a skinned chin.
